Fuel Filter Water Level Switch Test

    • If the fuel gauge needle sweeps from the minimum to maximum position and then returns to minimum the gauge is OK. Go to Step 2 .
    • If the fuel gauge needle does not sweep correctly, replace the gauge assembly and retest.
  1. Start the engine, then check the engine condition.
    • If the engine condition is OK, go to Step 4 .
    • If the engine condition is not OK, do the symptom troubleshooting.
  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
  1. Disconnect the fuel filter water level switch 2P connector (A).

  1. Connect fuel filter water level switch 2P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and then check the ‘‘WATER IN/FUEL FILTER'' in the odometer/outside temperature display.
    • If the ‘‘WATER IN/FUEL FILTER'' in the odometer/outside temperature display is showing, repair open in the BLK wire between the fuel filter water level switch and G301. If wire is OK, go to Step 8 .
    • If the ‘‘WATER IN/FUEL FILTER'' in the odometer/outside temperature display is not showing, repair open in the WHT wire between the fuel filter water level switch and the ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 86. If wire is OK, substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
