Lubricants and Fluids

Used engine oil may cause skin cancer if repeatedly left in contact with the skin for prolonged periods. Although this is unlikely unless you handle used oil on a daily basis, it is still advisable to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible after handling used oil.

For the details of lubrication points and type of lubricants to be applied, refer to the illustrated index and various work procedures (such as Assembly/Reassembly, Replacement, Overhaul, Installation, etc.) contained in each section.
Application
Lubricant or Fluid
A
Engine (EU)
Always use genuine Honda Motor Oil, ACEA A1/B1, ACEA A3/B3, or ACEA A5/B5.
ACEA/SAE viscosity: See chart.
Engine (except EU)
Always use API service grade SL or higher SAE viscosity: See chart.
B
Manual transmission
Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)
Always use genuine Honda MTF * . Using motor oil can cause stiffer shifting because it does not contain the proper additives.
C
Brake system (including VSA lines)
Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4
We recommend genuine Honda Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.
D
Clutch system
E
Power steering system
Honda Power Steering Fluid
Always use genuine Honda Power Steering Fluid. Using any other type of power steering fluid or automatic transmission fluid can cause increased wear and poor steering in cold weather.

Brake booster clevis pin
Clutch master cylinder clevis pin
Shift cable ends
Fuel fill door
Hood hinges and hood latch

Caliper piston boot, piston pins and boots
Rubber Grease
O
Caliper piston seal
Silicone Grease
P

Compressor Oil: SP-10 (P/N 38897-P13-003, 38898-P13-003, or 38899-P13-A01)
For refrigerant HFC-134a (R-134a)
Q
Cooling system
Always use genuine Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2

If genuine Honda MTF is not available, use API service SL or higher grade motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement.
