Lubricants and Fluids
|Used engine oil may cause skin cancer if repeatedly left in contact with the skin for prolonged periods. Although this is unlikely unless you handle used oil on a daily basis, it is still advisable to thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible after handling used oil.|
For the details of lubrication points and type of lubricants to be applied, refer to the illustrated index and various work procedures (such as Assembly/Reassembly, Replacement, Overhaul, Installation, etc.) contained in each section.
|A||Engine||API service grade: SL or higher fuel-efficient oil|
SAE viscosity: See chart.
|B||Manual transmission||Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)|
Always use Honda MTF*. Using motor oil can cause stiffer shifting because it does not contain the proper additives.
|Automatic transmission||Honda ATF-Z1|
Always use Honda ATF-Z1. Using a non-Honda ATF can affect shift quality.
|C||Brake system (including ABS/VSA line)||Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4|
We recommend genuine Honda Brake Fluid. Using a non-Honda brake fluid can cause corrosion and decrease the life of the system.
|D||Clutch line (manual transmission)||Brake Fluid DOT 3 or DOT 4|
|E||Power steering system||Honda Power Steering Fluid|
Always use Honda Power Steering Fluid. Using any other type of power steering fluid or automatic transmission fluid can cause increased wear and poor steering in cold weather.
|Release fork (manual transmission)|
Brake booster clevis
Clutch master cylinder clevis (manual transmission)
Shift lever (manual transmission)
Fuel fill door
Hood hinges and hood latch
Trunk hinges and trunk latch
|Brake caliper piston seals|
Rear brake shoe linkage (Rear drum brake model)
|Brake caliper piston boots, piston pins and boots|
Shift cable ends
|R||Air conditioning compressor||Compressor oil:|
SANDEN SP-10 (P/N 38897-P13-A01 or 38899-P13-A01)
For refrigerant HFC-134a (R-134a)
|If genuine Honda MTF is not available, use API service SL or higher grade motor oil with a viscosity of SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 as a temporary replacement.|
NOTE: The illustration shows the LHD type, RHD type is symmetrical.
