Symptom Troubleshooting - SRS Indicator Circuit

SRS indicator does not come on


1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and see if the other indicators come on (brake system, etc).

Do the other indicators come on?


YES - Go to 2.


NO - Go to 9.


2.Turn the ignition switch OFF, then remove the gauge assembly. Disconnect the gauge assembly connector A (22P) (A) [or gauge assembly connector B (22P)] (B) from the gauge assembly.
[ ]: KX model

 

3.Check resistance between the No. 11 [or No. 15] terminal of gauge assembly connector (22P) and body ground. There should be 0-1.0 W.
[ ]: KX model

 

Is the resistance as specified?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Open in the BLK wire of the dashboard wire harness, or faulty body ground terminal (G502). If the body ground terminal is OK, replace the dashboard wire harness A.n

4.Check for voltage between the No. 9 [or No. 16] terminal of the gauge assembly connector (22P) and body ground within the first 6 seconds after turning the ignition switch ON (II). There should be about 1.0 V for 6 seconds and then about 11 V.

Is the voltage as specified?


YES - Faulty SRS indicator circuit in the gauge assembly; replace the gauge assembly.n


NO - Go to 5.


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF. Disconnect the battery negative cable, and wait for 3 minutes.

6.Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.

7.Reconnect the battery negative cable.

8.Connect a voltmeter between the No. 9
[or No. 16] terminal of gauge assembly connector (22P) and body ground. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and measure voltage. There should be 0.5 V or less.
[ ]: KX model

 

Is the voltage as specified?


YES - Faulty SRS unit; replace the SRS unit.n


NO - Short to power in the PNK wire of the dashboard wire harness B or dashboard wire harness A; replace the faulty harness.n


9.Turn the ignition switch OFF. Check the No. 10 ( 7.5A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse blown?


YES - Go to 11.


NO - Go to 10.

10.Connect a voltmeter between the No. 15
[or No. 18] terminal of the gauge assembly connector (22P) and body ground. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and measure the voltage. There should be battery voltage.
[ ]: KX model

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Faulty SRS indicator circuit in the gauge assembly or poor contact at the gauge assembly connector (22P) and the gauge assembly; if the connection is OK, replace the gauge assembly.n


NO - Open in the under-dash fuse/relay box No. 10 (7.5A) fuse circuit, or open in the YEL wire of the dashboard wire harness A. If the under-dash fuse/relay box is OK, replace the dashboard wire harness A.n


11.Replace the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse, then check to see if the indicators comes on.

Do the indicators come on?


YES - The system is OK at this time.n


NO - Repair the short to ground in the under-dash fuse/relay box No. 10 (7.5A) fuse circuit.n

SRS indicator stays on, but no DTCs are stored


NOTE:

1.Disconnect the battery negative cable, and wait for 3 minutes.

2.Disconnect SRS unit connector A (28P) from the SRS unit.

3.Remove the gauge assembly. Disconnect gauge assembly connector A (22P) (A) [or gauge assembly connector B (22P)] (B) from the gauge assembly.
[ ]: KX model

 

4.Check resistance between the No. 9 [or No.16] terminal of gauge assembly connector (22P) and the No. 11 terminal of SRS unit connector A (28P). There should be 1 W or less.
[ ]: KX model

 

Is the resistance as specified?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Open in the dashboard wire harness A or dashboard wire harness B; replace the faulty harness.n


5.Reconnect the battery negative cable.

6.Reconnect gauge assembly connector (22P) to the gauge assembly.

7.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8.Install a jumper wire between the No. 15
[or No.18] terminal and the No. 9 [or No. 16] terminal of the gauge assembly connector (22P). The SRS indicator should go off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?


YES - Faulty SRS unit or poor contact at SRS unit connector A (28P) and the SRS unit; check the connection. If the connection is OK, replace the SRS unit.n


NO - Faulty SRS indicator circuit in the gauge assembly or poor contact at gauge assembly connector (22P); check the connection. If the connection is OK, replace the gauge assembly.n
