Charging System Indicator Circuit Troubleshooting

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

Does the charging system indicator come on?


YES - Go to 2.


NO - Go to 3.


2.Start the engine.

Does the charging system indicator go off?


YES - Charging system indicator circuit is OK. Go to the Alternator and Regulator Circuit Test.n


NO - Go to 3.


3.Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function procedure.

Does the charging system indicator flash?


YES -

  • Without navigation system. Go to 6.
  • With navigation system. Go to 4.

NO - Replace the gauge control module.n


4.Disconnect the 12P connector from the AVN unit.

5.Start the engine.

Does the charging system indicator go off?


YES - Check that the AVN unit connector terminals are firmly seated at the connectors. If OK, substitute a known-good AVN unit and recheck.n


NO - Go to 6.

6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Disconnect the alternator 4P connector.

8.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

9.Start the engine.

Does the charging system indicator go off?


YES - Repair a short in the wire between the alternator and under-dash fuse/relay box.n


NO - Go to 10.


10.Measure the voltage between alternator 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to the Alternator and Regulator Circuit Troubleshooting.n


NO - Check for a blown No. 4 (10 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair open in the wire between the alternator and nuder-dash fuse/relay box.n
