DTC Troubleshooting: P0193 (95-2)

DTC P0193:  FRP Sensor Circuit High Voltage

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Check the FRP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is about 4.75 V or higher indicated?

YES - Go to 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FRP sensor and the ECM.n

3.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 30 seconds.

4.Disconnect the FRP sensor 3P connector.

5.Connect FRP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3 with a jumper wire.

6.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

7.Check the FRP SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is about 4.75 V or higher indicated?

YES - Go to 8.

NO - Go to 18.

8.Remove the jumper wire from the FRP sensor 3P connector.

9.Measure voltage between FRP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.

Is there about 5 V?

YES - Go to 10.

NO - Go to 14.

10.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 30 seconds.

11.Disconnect ECM connector No. 1 (96P).

12.Connect FRP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 2 to body ground with a jumper wire.

13.Check for continuity between ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 40 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 24.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the FRP sensor and ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 40, then go to 20.

14.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 30 seconds.

15.Disconnect ECM connector No. 1 (96P).

16.Connect FRP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3 to body ground with a jumper wire.

17.Check for continuity between ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 91 and body ground.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 24.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the FRP sensor and ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 91, then go to 20.

18.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

19.Replace the fuel rail.

20.Reconnect all connectors.

21.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

22.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

23.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?

YES - If DTC P0193 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FRP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n

24.Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM.

25.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

NO - If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM.n
