DTC Troubleshooting: P0339 (4-11)

DTC P0339:  CKP Sensor Intermittent Interruption

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3.Start the engine. If engine does not start, keep cranking 10 seconds.

4.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0339 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Check for poor or loose connections and terminals at the following:
  • CKP sensor
  • ECM
  • Engine ground
  • Body ground

Are the connections and terminals OK?


YES - Go to 7.


NO - Repair the connectors or terminals, then go to 15.


7.Disconnect the CKP sensor 3P connector.

8.Disconnect ECM connector No. 1 (96P).

9.Connect CKP sensor 3P connector terminal No. 1 to body ground with a jumper wire.

 

10.Check for continuity between ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 94 and body ground.

 

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 11.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the CKP sensor and ECM connector No. 1 terminal No. 94, then go to 14.

11.Check for damage on the CKP sensor pulse plate.

Is the pulse plate damaged?


YES - Replace the CKP sensor pulse plate, then go to 14.


NO - Go to 12.


12.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

13.Replace the CKP sensor.

14.Reconnect all connectors.

15.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

16.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

17.Start the engine, and let it idle 10 seconds.

18.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P0339 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CKP sensor and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n
