DTC Troubleshooting: P1041 (71-12), P1042 (72-12), P1043 (73-12), P1044 (74-12), P2146 (177-5), P2149 (177-6)

DTC P1041:  No. 1 Cylinder Injector Circuit Shorted
  
  
DTC P1043:  No. 3 Cylinder Injector Circuit Shorted
  
  
DTC P2146:  No. 1 and No. 4 Cylinder Injector Circuit Malfunction
  
  

1.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

4.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P1041, P1042, P1043, P1044, P2146 and/or P2149 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injectors and the ECM.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait 30 seconds.

6.Disconnect the injector 2P connector from the problem cylinder.

7.At the injector side, measure resistance between the injector 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

 

Is there about 0.2 W or less at room temperature?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Go to 15.


8.Disconnect ECM connector No. 1 (96P).

9.Check for continuity between injector 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 (see table).

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wires of the injector, then go to 16.


NO - Go to 10.

10.Check for continuity between injector 2P connector terminals No. 2 and body ground (see table).

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 16.


NO - Go to 11.

11.Check for continuity between injector 2P connector terminals No. 1 and body ground (see table).

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 16.


NO - Go to 12.

12.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

13.Measure voltage between injector 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (see table).

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 16.


NO - Go to 14.

14.Measure voltage between injector 2P connector terminals No. 1 and body ground (see table).

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the injector and the ECM, then go to 16.


NO - Go to 21.

15.Replace the problem injector.

16.Reconnect all connectors.

17.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

18.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

19.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

20.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P1041, P1042, P1043, P1044, P2146 and/or P2149 are indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injector and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - Troubleshooting is complete.n


21.Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM.

22.Do the INJECTOR TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

23.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P1041, P1042, P1043, P1044, P2146 and/or P2149 are indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the injector and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - If the ECM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the ECM was substituted, replace the original ECM.n
