DTC Troubleshooting: P1102 (50-5), P1103 (50-6)

DTC P1102:  MAF Sensor Signal Lower Than Expected
  
  

1.Check for poor connections or blockage at the intake air duct.

Is it OK?


YES - Go to 2.


NO - Reconnect or repair the intake air duct, then go to 10.


2.Check for damage or looseness at the air tube in the air cleaner.

Is it OK?


YES - Go to 3.


NO - Repair or replace the damaged parts, then go to 10.


3.Check for dirty air cleaner.

Is it dirty?


YES - Replace the air cleaner element, then go to 10.


NO - Go to 4.

4.Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

5.Clear the DTC with the HDS.

6.Test-drive under these conditions:
  • Engine Coolant temperature above 70 °C (158 °F)
  • Transmission in 2nd gear
  • Engine speed at 3,500 rpm (min-1) or more
  • During the drive, decelerate for 7 seconds (with the throttle fully closed)

7.Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1102 or P1103 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate FAILED?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1 and the ECM. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to 6 and recheck.


8.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

9.Replace the MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1.

10.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

11.Reset the ECM with the HDS.

12.Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 2,000 rpm (min-1) without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

13.Test-drive under these conditions:
  • Engine Coolant temperature above 70 °C (158 °F)
  • Transmission in 2nd gear
  • Engine speed at 3,500 rpm (min-1) or more
  • During the drive, decelerate for 7 seconds (with the throttle fully closed)

14.Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?


YES - If DTC P1102 or P1103 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1 and the ECM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.


NO - Go to 15.


15.Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1102 or P1103 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate PASSED?


YES - Troubleshooting is complete.n


NO - If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MAF sensor/IAT sensor 1 and the ECM, then go to 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to 13 and recheck.
