DTC Troubleshooting: 54, 61

DTC 54:  ABS Fail-safe Relay
  
  

1.Check the No. 4 (10A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?


YES - Reinstall the fuse, and go to 2.


NO - Replace the fuse and recheck.n


2.Check the No. 18 (30A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?


YES - Reinstall the fuse, and go to 3.


NO - Replace the fuse and recheck.


3.Clear the DTC.

4.Test-drive the vehicle.

Does the ABS indicator come on, and are DTC 54 or DTC 61 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure; the vehicle is OK at this time.n


5.Disconnect the ABS control unit 26P connector.

6.Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

7.Measure the voltage between the ABS control unit 26P connector terminal No. 20 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 8.


NO - Repair open in the wire between the No. 4 ( 10A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box and the ABS control unit.n


8.Measure the voltage between the ABS control unit 26P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

 

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Check for loose wires or poor connections at the ABS control unit 26P connector. If the connections are good, replace the ABS modulator-control unit.n


NO - Repair open in the wire between the No. 18 (30A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the ABS control unit.n
