Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Area: With Side Curtain Airbags

Front Pillar Trim - With Side Curtain Airbags


SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.Remove the front pillar trim (A).

-1 Pull out the front door opening trim (B) as needed.
-2 Pry the front pillar cap (C) out until it is stopped by the hooks (D). Release the hooks and pull the cap out of the grommet (E). Discard the cap.
-3 Pull the trim back by hand to detach the clip, then pull the trim up.

 

2.Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Replace the damaged clips with new ones.
  • Do not reuse the front pillar cap; always replace it.
  • If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the front pillar trim with a new one.
  • To prevent the side curtain airbag from accidentally deploying, removed trim pieces should be checked for these types of damage:
    • Any cracks, deformations, or press-whitenings in the front pillar trim (A)
    • Any cracks, or press-whitenings in the grommet and clip seating surfaces (B)
    • Bent or broken grommet (C)
  • Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
  • Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
  • Push the clips into place securely.

 

Center Pillar Trim - With Side Curtain Airbags


SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.Remove these items:


2.Remove the front seat belt lower anchor bolt.

3.Remove the center pillar lower trim (A).

-1 Detach the lower clips by pulling the bottom of the trim back by hand.
-2 While pull back both top edge of the trim, pull it up.

 

4.Remove the upper anchor cover, and remove the upper anchor bolt.

5.Remove the center pillar upper trim (A).

-1 Pull out the front door opening trim (B) and the rear door opening trim (C).
-2 Detach the lower hook (D).
-3 Detach the upper clip by pulling the top of the trim.
-4 Pull the trim down to release the upper hooks (E).

 

6.Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Replace any damaged clips with new ones.
  • If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the center pillar upper trim with a new one.
  • To prevent the side curtain airbag from accidentally deploying, removed trim pieces should be checked for these kinds of damage:
    • Any cracks or deformations in the center pillar upper trim (A) and the upper hooks (B), any press-whitenings in the upper part of the trim
    • Any cracks or deformations in the center pillar lower trim (C), and any breakages in the part (D) fitted with the center pillar upper trim
    • Any cracks or press-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (E)
  • Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
  • Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
  • Make sure the trim hooks are installed into the holes in the body securely.
  • Push the clips into place securely.
  • Apply liquid thread lock to the seat belt upper anchor bolt before reinstallation.
  • Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.

 

Quarter Pillar Trim - With Side Curtain Airbags


SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.Remove these items:


2.Remove the quarter pillar trim (A).

-1 Pull out the rear door opening trim (B) as needed.
-2 Detach the lower clips by pulling the bottom of the trim.
-3 Detach the upper clip by pulling the top of the trim.
-4 Pull the trim down to release the upper hooks (C).

 

3.Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Replace any damaged clips with new ones.
  • If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the quarter pillar trim with a new one.
  • To prevent the side curtain airbag from accidentally deployed, removed trim pieces should be checked for these kinds of damage:
    • Any cracks, deformations, or press-whitenings in the quarter pillar trim (A)
    • Any cracks, or press-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (B)
  • Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
  • Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
  • Make sure the trim hooks are installed into the holes in the body securely.
  • Push the clips into place securely.
  • Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.

 

Rear Pillar Trim - With Side Curtain Airbags


SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.Remove these items:


2.Pull the rear pillar trim (A) back by hand to detach the clips (B, C), then remove it.

 

3.Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Replace any damaged clips with new ones.
  • If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the rear pillar trim with a new one.
  • To prevent the side curtain airbag from accidentally deployed, removed trim pieces should be checked for these kinds of damage:
    • Any cracks, deformations, or press-whitenings in the rear pillar trim (A)
    • Any cracks, or press-whitenings in the clip seating surfaces (B)
  • Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
  • Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
  • Push the clips into place securely.
