Idle Speed Inspection - Except L12A4, L13A6, L15A1(IN model) and L15A6

L13A1 engine (M/T) for KQ, KK, KT, KB models

  • Leave the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve connected.
  • Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
    • The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) has not been reported on.
    • Ignition timing
    • Spark plugs
    • Air cleaner
    • PCV system

1.Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve 2P connector.

2.Connect a tachometer (A) to the test tachometer connector (B), or connect the HDS or a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC) (C) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

3.Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm (min-1) without load (in neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.

4.Check the idle speed without load conditions: headlights, blower fan, rear defogger, radiator fan, and air conditioner are not operating.

Idle speed should be: 700±50 rpm (min-1)

5.Idle the engine for 1 minute with A/C switch ON, temperature control at maximum cool, blower fan at maximum speed, rear window defogger ON,head lights at high beam, then check the idle speed.

Idle speed should be: 850±50 rpm (min-1)

NOTE: If the idle speed is not within specification, do the Symptom Troubleshooting.

6.Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve 2P connector.

NOTE: You can use the HDS or a scan tool to inspect idle speed.
